The most challenging part of incorporating Industry 4.0 technology into processes for many manufacturers is often that specialized systems and framework hasn’t been developed yet for their Industry. In the plastics processing industry we’re beginning to see more development on these frameworks that will allow us to implement more of the 4.0-level of monitoring and artificial intelligence into our processes.
One such company helping to drive this initiative is Oden Technologies who have an existing industrial automation platform. They have recently introduced what they call the industry’s first cloud and edge Machine Learning and Artificial Intelligence framework for manufacturers.
Oden identifies its Machine Learning systems as being unique in that they are developed specifically for manufacturing. While other such systems do exist, they are often are not developed solely for manufacturing and often need extensive modifications and additional setup to be used in a production environment.
The framework itself has development targeted directly at extrusion and injection molding. Advantages of this include but are not limited to the manufacturer being able to have more control and functionality over their equipment. It especially means more preventive measures can be taken to eliminate waste, optimize cycle-times, avoid machine malfunctions, and increase production efficiency in general.
Here at Lomont we are continuously looking ahead for ways to improve our processes that will in turn allow us to provide more value to our customers.
Industry 4.0 systems and frameworks such as these are excellent ways when fine tuned will help deliver greater quality and on-time delivery for manufacturers who are able to implement them.
